1.0 PROJECT BACKGROUND

Social Engagement (GIG1005) is a course where students are required to engage and contribute to the community and the society. We first year students of Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Malaya were required to complete this course by planning and organising a 30 hours of social volunteering project including activities , interaction and social exchange. This course creates awareness among the students to be more responsible towards the society and the environment. Not only that, this course also promotes team work and leadership skills among students. This is because the activites are not carried out individually but in a group of 14 members were we have to generate ideas , communicate , and help each other to accomplish the task. Together we feed off an adrenalin high of giving back to ensure that we remain emphatic, well grounded an active citizen.

We had a several meetings before coming up with our final decision which is helping the orphans. Our programme is more to volunteer work. We decided to choose Home for the Angels located in Broga, Semenyih. Basically, this project is not only focus on helping the orphans, we also conduct a few activities to get engage with the orphans in the Home for the Angels. The activities that we choose are Mini Game, make Tang Yuan ( Rice Ball), Zumba, Craft/ Drawing, Experiment, and also cleaning all the place.

We all worked together to do this activity starting with cleaning the place, where all members are participated. Then we separated all members and each of them become PIC of certain activity to make sure our work become easier and organized.

We have learnt a lot of things by doing this activity. Hopefully, our team has brighten up many people’s day by this activity and spread love toward the orphans . So that we have achieved our objectives of Social Engagement Project.

2.0 OBJECTIVE
1. To give opportunities for all us to get involved in volunteering activities which is helping the orphans at the Home for the Angels, Broga.

We decided to choose orphans at Home for the Angels because the children at there are less fortunate. They coming from a broken family, poor family that need a lot care from the others. Besides, Home for the Angels also lack of man work to carry out the activities like “Gong Zhai” and the charity sales.

2. To nourish critical thinking and enhance our skills especially soft skill and build team work.

Through this project, we can improve our soft skills like communicate with the orphans and the outsider not only with our friend. Our team work also build through this project, without anyone in the group, this project cannot carry out successfully.

3. To serve and engage the community we are approaching.

As the requirement for this project, we carry out few activities to serve and engage with the community that we are approaching. We giving out our helping hand to the foster home and playing games to engage with the children there.

3.0 THE STAKEHOLDER’S NAME

Home for The Angels, Broga, where the place we carry out our services to the community. This place
allocated at Blok 3518, Jalan Tokong Broga, 71750, Negeri Sembilan (40-50 km) from
University Malaya. Through this services, we able to reduce teachers stress by helping them in taking
care of the children and making the children happy.

4.0 Experience in Social Engagement

This is our first time carry out social engagement project. This is an unforgettable experience for us
where we enjoy these two days one night at Home for the Angels with the children there. We value
time over there since we do not know will us able to do this project again. Going through this project,
we know there are many ways to help the unfortunates that not only by giving money to them.

5.0 Participants

We have 24 orphans from Home for the Angels which consists of 8 boys and 16 girls. We also have 6
teacher who take care of the children involves in this project. Our supervisor, Dr. Mozard Mohtar and
the below are 14 group members from group 3 that involve in this project.

8.0 IMPLEMENTATION

On first day, batch 1 is going to home for angels at 5.30 AM by car, then at 6.10 AM batch 2 is going to MRT station after arriving at the orphanage we start cleaning the orphanage and help them to do day to day activities. After all the cleaning session we proceed to do ice breaking with the kids and some other mini games. At 11 PM we take a break for lunch and we also eat with the orphanage kids. After lunch we make tang yuan (rice ball) with the kids.at 4 PM we make a Zumba with all kids after all the programme we all prepare to sleep.

Second day, wake up at 5.30 AM and then all the members are getting ready to go zumb and hiking with the children after finishing hiking we have breakfast. Before lunch some of our members also help the kitchen master to prepare the vegan food. At another place, members make a craft with the children. At 12 PM we have lunch and after lunch the kids continue their craft until their done , After that we make a time to do science experiment. At 3 PM there is free time to all members and all kids. Some of them playing badminton and others sleep. At 6 we have dinner and after dinner the kids do their buddha prayer, shower. After prayer we do some activities until 8. At 9 they were prepare to sleep and we start cleaning all places and go back to University of Malaya.

First of all, we would like to thank our supervisor, Dr. Mozard Mohtar for all the guide and opinion.

All of us feel grateful to have the opportunity to held this program together. We learnt that be kind to everyone is always important. Through this program, we experienced and learnt new thing that we cannot get from formal classes.

Furthermore, we learnt how to work in a group and how to communicate effectively with both community and teammates.
